Halftime for Heart

Halftime for Heart is a fundraising event dedicated to promoting heart health in the Black community through basketball, education, and community support. Held on January 22, 2025, during the Jackson-Reed High School Boys’ Varsity basketball game against Cardoza High School, the event honors the legacy of Coach Chris Cheeks, a beloved mentor and advocate for minority youth.
Proceeds will support a scholarship for a graduating Jackson-Reed senior and the Black Heart Association’s (BHA) health equity initiatives. Attendees can enjoy the game, participate in the “Halftime for Heart” basketball challenge, and access free heart screenings and educational resources.
