H.I.P.S. Program

Heart. Identity. Prevention. Strength.

Empowering Women to Protect Their Health at Every Stage of Life

The H.I.P.S. Program is a nationwide initiative created by the Black Heart Association to help women better understand their health beyond the numbers on a scale. From adolescence to menopause and beyond, H.I.P.S. provides education, screenings, resources, and support that address the real factors influencing women's long-term health and wellness.

Unlike traditional health programs that focus primarily on weight or BMI, H.I.P.S. helps women understand the critical role of:

  • Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR)

  • Subcutaneous & Visceral Fat

  • Hormonal Changes Across the Lifespan

  • Cardiometabolic Risk Factors

  • Mental & Emotional Wellness

  • Heart Health Prevention Strategies

Our goal is simple: help women become informed, empowered, and proactive about their health before serious health conditions develop.

Why H.I.P.S. Matters

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in the United States, yet many women do not realize they are at risk until symptoms become severe.

Many health risks develop silently over time, including:

  • Heart Disease

  • Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

  • Diabetes & Prediabetes

  • Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

  • Mental Health Challenges

  • Hormonal & Metabolic Changes

H.I.P.S. was designed to close these knowledge gaps by providing culturally relevant education and practical tools that women can use throughout every stage of life.

Our Approach

Clinical

We provide evidence-based education and screenings that help women understand their individual health risks and take action early.

Cultural

We recognize that healthcare experiences, family history, and community factors influence health outcomes. Our programming is designed to meet women where they are.

Spiritual

We believe health is more than physical wellness. Through encouragement, faith-informed messaging, and community support, we help women care for their whole selves.
